Public Opinion Poll, September 2018


In 2018, support for the death penalty in Serbia has increased slightly, from 54 to 56 per cent. This year’s results:


When the undecided are excluded, 70% of respondents were for the death penalty and 30% against it.

The increasing trend in support for the death penalty, begun in 2013, continues:

As usual, women are against the death penalty more often than men:

Younger respondents are not against the death penalty more often than the older ones. Only 55% of those under 30 support capital punishment:

Democratic voters are overwhelmigly (66%) against capital punishment, while all others are for it:

Urban respondents oppose capital punishment more often than those from rural areas:

Regionally, the highest percentage of those supporting capital punihsment live in Vojvodina, followed by Central Serbia and Belgrade:

The better educated repondents are more often against capital punishment:

The poll („face-to-face“ survey of public opinion – omnibus) was administered by Ipsos Strategic Marketing, using the same methodology as in the past six years, on a nationally representative sample (three-stage random representative stratified sample), from 19 to 28 September 2018. The number of respondents in the realized sample was 1,035. The integral report is available here.
