All that is known about Stanislav Todorović, a would-be executioner is that he lived in a rented room in the Belgrade district of Zvezdara and that he wrongly believed the office of the hangman to be vacant. On 26 November 1930 he submitted the following application to the Ministry of Justice:

To the Honourable Minister of Justice

Belgrade

I am begging Mr. Minister of Justice most politely to condescend to accept this application by which I am asking Mister Minister of Justice to appoint me as an executioner, since I have heard that the said office is vacant.

In hope that the Minister will accept my application to be appointed for the said office, for which I am thankful in advance.

26-XI-1930

in Belgrade

Politely,

Stanislav Todorović

Vojvode Brane Street no. 42, c/o Vujić, Belgrade

Todorović failed to attach the stamp duty to his application, either because he forgot or because he could not afford to buy it. In consequence, his application was not considered on its merits but was archived instead. It was first entered into the Name Register of the Ministry of Justice for the year 1930, volume 556, under T–1317, with a note: „Todorović Stanislav, applied for executioner“.

Todorović’s application remains in the archive to day – now in the Archives of Yugoslavia, under the signature AJ, 63, F-234-136-1930.

Belgrade, Vojvode Brane
